Our vision

Why journey with us? Because We Dream

Dreaming is Believing and we believe that we can make a change starting NOW!

The Dolomite Mountains’ dream is to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy Italy’s natural beauty, support the local communities and encourage intrepid journeys that give more than they take.

We Dream

Our Impact Model

Travel has the power to transform and we believe that
extraordinary experiences will transform You, our guest.

Every decision we make revolves around our core ethics of care of nature, care of wildlife and care of people.

THE DM DRIVE

We must be accountable. Strive to reduce and compensate CO2 emissions

THE DM DRIVE

We must be accountable. Strive to reduce and compensate CO2 emissions

At Dolomite Mountains, we’ve made this connection and, driven by our dream of responsible travel, will join our fellow climate positive warriors and protect the gift mother nature has given us.

Italian Travel

Italy’s famous long-standing popularity with tourists has enabled 65 percent of its population to be employed in the service sector and accounts for almost three-quarters of its GDP. The Italian travel and tourism sector has considerable leverage with the revenue it generates. Bringing positive economic outcomes for the communities it serves, this power, however, brings enormous responsibility.
The real force of our dream is that we can expand our influence by forming alliances with like-minded organisations:

Our friends at Etifor and Wow Nature have implemented a plan to help companies like ours improve our social and environmental responsibilities. We are working together to counter the unprecedented ecological crisis we humans now face.

We seek to support, connect & inspire nature-based businesses to excel in following the highest standards of sustainability encompassing Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce (4Cs). The aim is to maintain a healthy and productive planet for posterity.

Our mission is to empower the global travel community to protect natural and cultural capital while creating economic value that benefits both trade members and destinations.

THE DM DESIGN

So how do we do it?

We choose to work with hospitality businesses and people that also believe in the dream of sustainability and preservation.

The Climate-Positive Goal and the MARC Method*

We aim to leave the world a better place than we found it. That is why we have decided to embark on a journey to become a Climate-Positive company by 2030. Becoming Climate-Positive means that each year, we will capture more CO2 than we emit, gradually reducing our impact and taking care of an increasing amount of forest until we reach a state where emissions cannot be reduced further due to existing technological limitations. We will then fully offset the remaining emissions year by year.
We want to show our customers, suppliers, partners, and all stakeholders that there is a different way to do business.
To become climate-positive, we use the MARC method, which stands for Measure, Avoid, Risks, Capture & Communicate. This path requires awareness, commitment, and dedication over many years.
We recognize that environmental responsibility and reducing our footprint are complex issues, and achieving this important goal requires foresight and a long-term strategy. The MARC Method is about reducing unsustainable behaviors and creating new, more responsible production practices and processes.

MEASURE

CALCULATE AND VERIFY OUR IMPACTS

AVOID

AVOID AND REDUCE OUR IMPACTS

RISKS

LEARN TO MANAGE NEW CLIMATE RISKS

COMMUNICATE

CAPTURE OUR IMPACTS AND SUPPORT PROJECTS THAT PROTECT OR RESTORE NATURE TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS

* MARC is an approach developed by Etifor that summarises the international best practice to scientifically address and communicate your environmental impacts

LEGACY

Legacy 2022-2030

Since 2021, Dolomites Mountains has measured and neutralized its climate impact yearly by supporting projects to protect existing forests in Italy and abroad through the WOWnature platform developed by Etifor Srl, a spin-off company of the University of Padua.

In 2021 and 2022, Dolomite Mountains neutralized the climate impact of its direct emissions (office consumption, travel logistics, material consumption, etc.) by supporting projects to protect the existing forests of Alta Badia Adum and Val di Fiemme, which conserved and sequestered 112 tons of CO2.
Clearing the areas damaged by the storm Vaia and the bark beetle infestation was essential for protecting and conserving the forests.

Since 2023, Dolomites Mountains has offset 110% of the direct impact of its activities with 128 tons of CO2 and has also begun to neutralize the indirect impact of its guests’ air travel by capturing 1 ton of CO2 per guest. To compensate for the total amount of air travel by guests in 2023, Dolomite Mountains offset 2,219 tons of CO2 (709 in the first half, 1,510 in the second half) by supporting the Amazonbai project in the Bailique Archipelago in Brazil, where Indigenous people, through the Cooperativa dos Produtores Agroextrativistas do Bailique e Beira, are protecting the Amazon rainforest from illegal logging and other deforestation threats.

DIRECT COMPENSATION

At Dolomite Mountains, we aim to be Climate Positive by 2030.
Driven by the concept of responsibility AND growth, we believe it’s best business practice to have a cultural understanding and nourish the people, forests, and mountain regions we work with.

OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

59,2 ton CO2 / year - CO2 emissions

Alta Badia Adüm project

Dolomite Mountains supports the Alta Badia Adüm project: interventions will be made to improve and expand the food-forest path, and the inclusion of new species and enrichment. Among the interventions there will also be the cleaning of 2 ha of the area affected by the bark beetle.
INDIRECT COMPENSATION

You, too, are part of the Dolomite Mountains’ commitment
to becoming climate positive by 2030.

We want YOU, our guest, to feel great about all aspects of your travel and join us in being climate positive by 2030. We are reducing our indirect environmental impact by choosing destinations and businesses that share these values and inspiring you to make mindful decisions regarding your travel itinerary. We consider how you get to your destination.
Where possible, we select eco-conscious accommodations and responsible activities and automatically build a 15 euro donation into the trip price to assist in the growth and maintenance of carefully chosen environmental projects. This donation supports communities when and where they need it most.

When you select Dolomite Mountains for your next journey, the 15 euros donated

ensures your trip to Italy is now carbon neutral.

OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

1.309 ton CO2 / year

Val di Fiemme & Rio delle Amazzoni

Among the consequences of Storm Vaia, one of the most catastrophic is the spread of the bark beetle. This insect has reproduced on the windthrown, so much so that it is able to attack even those forests spared by the storm, multiplying the damage. In this situation, it is crucial to act promptly by skitting and cleaning the plants attacked by the bark beetle to protect the forest around the core attacked by the parasite.
